Sita Temple, Nuwara Eliya

#2 of 7 in Historic Sites in Nuwara Eliya
Religious Site · Tourist Spot
Colorful and extravagant in its design, Sita Temple allegedly marks the spot where Sita of the "Ramayana" fame was held captive by the demon king Rawana. The temple sits at the foot of a hill, approximately 1 km (0.62 mi) from Hakgala Botanical Garden. The statues and facades feature intricate gold decoration of Hindu iconography. Next to the temple, a stream flows over rocks marked by circular depressions supposedly made by Rawana's elephant.
