Udawalawe National Park

One of the primary nature reserves in the country, Uda Walawe National Park provides vital habitat for a herd of Sri Lankan elephants.
Kick off your visit on the 10th (Tue): stroll through Udawalawe Trails and then tour the pleasant surroundings at Elephant Transit Home (ETH). On your second day here, get to know the resident critters at Udawalawa Elephant Orphanage and then stroll through Udawalawe National Park.

The relaxing hilltop village of Ella benefits from a more temperate climate than much of the rest of country thanks to its high elevation.
Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Ella Spice Garden and Honey Bee Garden. Palm-fringed beaches with golden sand, turquoise water, and a colorful coral reef are enough to draw any beachgoer to Unawatuna, but there's plenty to do off the beach here as well.
On the 15th (Sun), stroll through Ahungalla Beach, make a trip to Tsunami Honganji Vihara, then examine the collection at Community Tsunami Museum, and finally stroll through Sea Turtle Farm Galle Mahamodara. On your second day here, relax and rejuvenate at some of the best spas, enjoy the sand and surf at Jungle Beach, and then make a trip to Japanese Peace Pagoda.

Drive from Ella to Unawatuna in 3.5 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of taxi and flight; or fly. In March in Unawatuna, expect temperatures between 38°C during the day and 29°C at night. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 16th (Mon) so you can travel back home.
