Check out the much-lauded textiles at Barefoot, a shop established by Sri Lankan designer Barbara Sansei. Renowned for her vibrant, hand-woven fabrics, Sansei's creations include bedsheets, tablecloths, and other home decor, as well as quality clothing items with striking geometric designs. The thoughtfully laid-out store also features locally made crafts and a bookshop. Afterwards, admire the artworks in the gallery and relax in the courtyard cafe. Good variety of handicrafts and hand woven material. They had my favourite brand of posters there - stick no bills. They even had a shelf dedicated to organic food items. I bought 4 jars of dried & spiced meats, 2 jars of jam and 5 packs of curry mixes. They also have a cafe serving organic food items, homemade breads, freshly squeezed juices.

First, the store has some beautiful textiles and was one of the first places in Sri Lanka that changed the patterns and utilized small villages to produce textiles. Their patterns became the standard and are well copied throughout the city but this is the original. They have some great books, old-school postcards, and great knickknacks that are worth it for gifts. Secondly the courtyard cafe is a great place to unwind from the hot hustle bustle of Colombo and enjoy a nice meal a cool breeze and a great dessert. I’ve been going here since 1991 and it’s gotten better every year.
