A major crossing point along the nation's main rail artery, Nine Arches Bridge stands as a marvel of the region's colonial-era engineering. Completed in 1921, the bridge features nine successive arched spans stretching 91.5 m (300 ft) across a small valley. Standing at a height of 24 m (80 ft), the structure features no steel or metal in its construction--only bricks, cement, and rocks. You can make your way to the bridge from the nearby town of Ella via a jungle trail, at the end of which you'll have a clear view of this landmark structure. Alternatively, ride the train between the two stations on either side of the bridge for fine views and a chance to travel like the local population. • We visited here with a group. However, there were a lot of tourists when a train passes the bridge. The surrounding of the bridge is beautiful with the tunnel. Only local van or tuktuk drivers can bring us near the bridge otherwise we have to park our vehicles in the main road and walk to the bridge. I saw may young boys climbed the side walls of the bridge and take photographs. But it is very dangerous, however there are no authority to control such risky behaviors.
  • This place is looking as reall as all the pictures. This area is really photogenic. But taking pictures sitting on the bridge top is quite risky even though we all do. The village people said few people has died by falling down even we haven't much aware of this news. The bridge top is somewhat sloped to the outside which increases the risk of falling down. But the surface is very rough so it's not slippery unless it's raining. We walked along the railways from Ella Railway station. The route was so easy since there were no cross roads and the train schedule is well displayed on the railway station. 🛤 There are two routes to get in to the rain road which runs to the Ella town starting near the bridge. One route is straight through the wild and other is a small cross road. Anyhow it's hard to go to this place by a vehicle. You anyway have to walk a bit.
