Jutting out into the sea on the Bay of Galle, the fort was built in 1588 by Portuguese settlers, while the Dutch solidified it and populated its walls from the early 17th century until the British took over. A nice calm place to be. There are lot to learn about colonial time of Sri Lanka. The Fort was build by Portuguese and then conqured by Dutchs. Finally it is being ruled by Englishmen.

Beautiful historical structure that is quite large! It is surrounded by the ocean and cute shops. It’s nice to simply walk around and take in the historic charm. It’s also a great place to enjoy eating at the many fantastic restaurants inside the fort! It’s free to enter the fort premises too!

Very nice place with lots of space to spend time with your loved ones. It has different types of locations and activities inside the fort. Light house, sea jumping, street food, street walking are some of them. They have more than enough parking slots available inside the fort. There are many hotels inside the fort where you can stay for affordable prices. If you are walking with kids inside fort near to the sea, better be cautious and keep an eye on them, as it's deep sea closer to the walking path.
