Maritime Archeology Museum
Set in an old Dutch warehouse built in 1671, Maritime Archeology Museum features glass bottles, naval craft, and various antiquities recovered from at least 26 shipwrecks. A model of a 17th-century Dutch ship broken in half by the sea stands amid barrels, artillery guns, beer mugs, smoking pipes, and other accessories of seafaring. Situated within a historical fort, the museum recreates the experience of early modern trade in a harbor difficult to navigate. Watch the informative 15-minute video introduction, and ask the enthusiastic and knowledgeable staff any questions you might have. Have been to the Maritime Museum on multiple occasion and enjoyed learning facts about marine life and the ocean. Could do with some upkeep however.

This place houses a few interesting artefacts including replicas of shipwrecks etc. Not a huge space. Could cover the whole museum under one hour.

I visited a lot of museums all over the world, and to be honest with this one, I was very disappointed compared after having read so many good comments on it. The structure of the museum is messy, with explanation sign 1 after 2,3,4, followed by the 6 then 5 etc... But the worst is the level of English of the explanations. Many sentences don't make any sense, which makes it very complicated to understand. Also, a lot of displayed objects are just exposed without proper information, i.e. "An ancient bowl" ... At least, some pieces are worth seeing. I really recommend you to visit the National Museum in Colombo, with is much more interesting and worth visiting.

So beautiful and quiet. Nice statues, displaying fishmongers and ancient Srilankan lifestyle can be visited.Anyone who love ancient things will love this place.
