Take a walk with elephants at Millennium Elephant Foundation, a 6 hectare (15 acre) rescue and rehabilitation center dedicated to caring for these majestic creatures. Captive elephants in Sri Lanka are common--they're often not only used as a sign of wealth and as tourist attractions, but also as labor for the logging industry. This foundation raises awareness about elephant mistreatment and promotes the phasing out of elephant rides and the ban of Howdah elephant chairs. After a stroll with these mighty creatures, help an elephant relax in a refreshing river bath. Volunteers as well as tourists are welcome at the foundation. Put Millennium Elephant Foundation on your schedule, and learn what else deserves a visit by using our Kegalle trip planner.

  • It was a nice place to visit. You can see 6 elephants inside. You can wash them also. You pay an entrance fee. And for riding and washing you must give some tips also. There is a souvenir shop. The garden is little not too big. But u will enjoy...
  • A great experience to see elephants roaming without chains. Everything about this place is great. Instead of visiting elephant orphanage one should visit this place. You can ride the elephant, feed them and take them to bath.
