Hike up Pidurangala Rock, a geological feature offering extensive views of the verdant hilly landscape and an atmosphere of seclusion and contemplation. Standing opposite a larger, more frequented hill, the rock possesses a different charm to its touristy brother, with a quiet and peaceful Buddhist temple at its foot, and a giant reclining Buddha statue in a secluded cave part way up. The ascent takes around half an hour, with a medium difficulty scramble over some boulders near the top, so wear suitable footwear. The views from the top make the exertion worthwhile. For travelers who use our online itinerary creator, Sigiriya holidays become easier to arrange, with trips to the Pidurangala Rock and other attractions mapped out and timetabled.

Our driver encouraged us to do Pidurangula Rock for sunset instead of Sigirya and in my opinion it's the one bad recommendation he gave us. Yes it's 1/10th the price, but it's about 10 times more...

Excellent place for sunrise. It has amazing views and the hike up is not too long. The last part can be a little bit tricky if you are going up in the dark. From there you have nice view of the Sigiriya rock.

This is an awesome rock to climb. The views are spectacular. Bring a snack and take it all in (but please don’t leave any garbage behind). Remember a drink too. It’s worth visiting at any time of day. Many steps to climb, with some extra agility required near the top, clambering over large boulders. It’s a place I would come back to again. A serene and picturesque place. Wonderful!
