At Udawalawe National Park, 165 km (103 mi) east of Sri Lanka's capitol, explore the sanctuary for wild animals that were once displaced during the construction of the Udawalawe Reservoir on the Walawe River. Established on in 1972, the reserve covers 308 sq km (119 sq mi). Observe one of park's biggest attractions--elephants--along with jungle cats, monkeys, crocodiles, and other wildlife. After taking a safari, visit the orphanage where professional caretakers nurse baby animals and release them into the wild as they reach maturity. • I'm very proud of me living near the walawa national park... every year's we're going safari ... I invite foreigners from all over the world to come and enjoy our country... ❤️❤️❤️ 🇱🇰
  • The word of the mouth is that Udawalawe is the place to go if you want to see animals in the wild, primarily because it's the smallest one in the area and the animals/sqft density is highest. That may be true, but bear in mind that it does not guarantee anything. If you are lucky, an elephant will even put its trunk into the safari vehicle. If you are not, the best that you can wish for is seeing some animals from the distance and just hope that you enjoy 4x4 driving, as this experience is mostly driving.
