Japanese Peace Pagoda
Designed to focus on peace between all peoples, Japanese Peace Pagoda sits atop a hill overlooking a beach, with views stretching down into the city. Take a stroll up the hill, or take a rickshaw all the way to the top. Before you enter the temple, remember to cover up your shoulders and knees and remove your shoes. Once inside, take a moment to appreciate the message sent by the Buddhist monks who built the pagoda, and snap photos of the various Buddha statues. Very calm and peaceful pagoda in down south Sri Lanka. More quite and tidy place than others. Best for Meditation. This pagoda was built by Japan Government for build up Sri Lanka - Japan friendship. Nice Sunset can be seen from here every evening. Vehicle parking space is available and make sure to keep the place quietly and tidy when visit.

Like most pagodas in this beautiful country, it is a bit removed from sources of noise including traffic. It’s a great place to not only spend a few moments in silent reflection but also take in panoramic views of the coast. The priest at the beautifully adorned prayer room was very generous with information and advice, got us a ladder to gather gooseberries from the tree in the compound and even led us to the Hanuman temple next door.
