Kandy — 4 nights

Nestled between mountains in inland Sri Lanka, Kandy proudly bears its World Heritage Site designation while remaining culturally independent and colorfully picturesque.
Visiting Royal Botanical Gardens and Kandy Lake will get you outdoors. Venture out of the city with trips to Millennium Elephant Foundation (in Kegalle), Victoria Golf & Country Resort (in Rajawella) and Knuckles Mountain Range (in Etanwela). There's still lots to do: tour the pleasant surroundings at Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage, appreciate the history behind Bahiravokanda Vihara Buddha Statue, make a trip to Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, and see the interesting displays at Raja Museum.

For photos, maps, other places to visit, and more tourist information, refer to the Kandy trip planner.

Colombo to Kandy is an approximately 3-hour combination of taxi and flight. You can also take a train; or drive. Finish your sightseeing early on the 4th (Tue) to allow enough time to drive to Nuwara Eliya.
